Milestone

The inauguration of the new SIES Complex at Nerul in Navi Mumbai in 1996 highlighted the fact that SIES had gone global. It had entered the international phase of its already remarkable growth. Quite fittingly, too, for this was the time of liberalization in communications and business in India, and exchange of expertise with other countries. The Nerul Complex is a consequence of SIES commitment to higher education and is a giant step in its continuing search for fresher disciplines, professional methods and wider frontiers in education.

This was the fifth stage of SIES growth. The previous four were its inception in 1932, the inauguration of a new building for its High School in 1954, the founding of Arts, Science and Commerce College in 1960, and the College of Commerce and Economics in 1989. All these events, marked by the presence of prominent public figures and arousing much media attention were also take-off points of vigorous growth in new academic direction. But they had been confined to one locality of intense activity, the Matunga-Sion area of North Mumbai the birthplace of the society.

SIES three institution here are within walking distance of each other. The academic experience in Nerul, Navi Mumbai, marked a new interpretation by the society of its educational mission to suit this rapidly changing times, and its realization of the need to venture into new disciplines to meet new challenges. With much foresight and bold initiative, the Nerul Complex was set up to meet the insistent demands of the business world for trained managers and economists.

SIES Nerul is not just a new college. It is a campus for an extensive educational complex. A large plot of ground 12, 560 sq.m in area was acquired, and a new campus evolved over a decade at a cost of Rs. 400 million, a scale vastly larger than any of its previous Institutions
